Seljuk Silk Lampas Robe, Central Asia, 11th/12th century.

Slightly waisted with wide body, long sleeves and short collar, the red silk ground woven in green silk outlined with highlights of blue and gold, with repeated pattern of round medallions containing two addorsed birds each facing outwards surrounded by circular band of scrolling flowering vines, stripes in bird bodies and eyes highlighted in gold and blue, together with an associated carved semi-circular openwork gilded pectoral clasp with similar bird motif.
