While the importance of heavily armoured cavalry in Byzantium's push against the Muslim frontier is certainly reflected in Byzantine art, some sources indicate that influences were still mutual. Most obvious was, perhaps, a fashion for pseudo-Kufic decoration, particularly on shields (Fig. 221), in Byzantium.
